Jimmy Glands & The Bad Tones

Some 20 years ago I was lucky enough to witness the beginnings of a promising musical collaboration between two close friends of mine. Calling themselves Jimmy Glands & The Bad Tones, their songs were clever parodies of well known classics set to a whimsical beat.

In 1994 the boys hearing the call of stardom, packed up their belongings and move to the bright lights of the big city. A successful application to appear on that television institution “Hey Hey It’s Saturday” as contestants on Red Faces looked like their best chance at fame. Setting up a makeshift studio in their newly acquired world headquarters, the boys began to rehearse in earnest for their upcoming television appearance.

Appearing alongside the Bad Tones that night was a cavalcade of seasoned professionals, the likes of which the Bad Tones just couldn't compete. Coming third to a Stand-up Comedian in a novelty wig and a Barbara Streisand impersonator left a bad taste in their mouths for the entertainment industry.

Faced with defeat and repeated requests by Daryl Somers to join the group, Jimmy Glands and The Bad Tones broke up and my friends drifted their separate ways, robbed of their chance of fame and stardom.
